A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERSHIP
I’m Joe Santangelo, and I am running for the State Assembly to uplift the working class of the 46th Assembly District and create a brighter future where Brooklyn’s youth and families can prosper.
I was born and raised in South Brooklyn, and my family has lived here for generations before me. Now, my wife and I are raising a family in our community, and I feel I must step up to change our economic and political system that is so clearly broken.
If we don’t fight back right now, we will lose things that we cannot get back.
ATTORNEY AND ARMY VETERAN
As an attorney, I have spent nearly my entire career in public service, first as an active duty US Army officer and recently as a Manhattan prosecutor. I have worn many hats: providing legal representation to Soldiers and military families in Oklahoma; investigating intimate partner violence and fraud cases overseas in Korea; and prosecuting criminal trials in New York City. In these roles, I have stood up to authority to fight for what is right and ensure justice is delivered. I have the legal and ethical experience to get the job done on day one.
FIGHTING FOR ECONOMIC DIGNITY
While so many of our neighbors live paycheck-to-paycheck, the richest 1% have gotten exponentially richer. Landlords and speculative real estate developers have contributed to increases in rent and property values that make living a comfortable life or running a small business in Brooklyn virtually impossible for regular people. Tech and AI companies seek to monopolize our attention and colonize our minds for profit. An authoritarian President and federal government in league with the oligarchs have placed our democracy in imminent danger.
In the richest city in the richest country in the history of the world, most of the wealth in our society is hoarded by the ultra-wealthy. And many of us are struggling to even get by. This is simply unacceptable.
THE TIME IS NOW
With these cascading crises unfolding, we are seeing a new generation of leaders step up. People like myself who are independent and not guided by corrupt and corporate interests. People who will fight to make our system fairer for all. Not next year, not tomorrow, but now.
In the assembly, I will fight every day for the working class. I will do so by making sure we tax the ultra wealthy and giant corporations, lower the cost of living, build affordable housing, and protect our rights that are under attack by the federal government.
